Imagine never having to copy and paste text between tabs again. In ChatGPT Atlas, the chat experience is your constant companion. You can summon a companion sidebar on any website you visit—effectively inviting ChatGPT into your corner of the internet. Now, it can see and understand the specific web page you are on, giving it the full context it needs to be helpful.
- Side Chat for Productivity: Use this feature for a wide variety of cases: summarizing the contents of a complex pull request on GitHub, comparing products on an e-commerce site, or quickly summarizing a long Slack channel you’re catching up on. It shifts the browser from being a passive tool that displays information to an active tool that understands and can even edit the information it’s displaying.
- Cursor Chat for In-Line Editing: This is a major breakthrough for common writing flows. Instead of drafting an email in Gmail, copying it to ChatGPT for review, and then copying the result back, you can now select text in any form field or text box on the internet and ask ChatGPT to edit, rephrase, or “tidy up your language” right where you’re working. - Personalized Help: The browser can understand you better, leading to more relevant assistance. This starts with Suggestions on the homepage—proactive recommendations generated based on what Atlas understands you’ve been up to or might be trying to do next.
- Intelligent History Search: Use natural language to search your own web history. For instance, you can ask Atlas to “search web history for a doc about Atlas core design,” and it will leverage your memories to find the exact Google Doc, even if you can’t recall the URL.
- User Control is Paramount: We recognize the importance of privacy with a feature this powerful. Browser Memories are completely optional. You can manage them in settings or simply open a new Incognito window anytime you don’t want your activity to be remembered by ChatGPT.
3. Agent Mode: Taking Action for You
This is where ChatGPT Atlas transforms from an assistant into a true delegate. Agent Mode allows the AI to not just answer questions, but to take actions for you across the web, using your browser locally. It brings up its own cursor and starts clicking around, operating as a natural extension of yourself.

Agent Mode is only ever operating on your open tabs; it cannot execute code on your computer or access other files. You are always in control and have the option to approve or reject actions and take back control at any moment.
This is a step towards what we call “vibe lifing”—delegating all kinds of tasks to the agent in ChatGPT Atlas, freeing you up for more creative and meaningful work.
Availability and the Road Ahead
We are excited to ship this next-generation browser. ChatGPT Atlas is going live today for Mac OS worldwide for all users. Agent Mode, due to its advanced nature, is currently available to Plus and Pro users. We are working hard to bring this experience to Windows and mobile devices as quickly as we can.
